The Sun Path and Choquequirao Trek to Machu Picchu in 14 Days

Today we'll pick you up very early from your hotel in Lima and take a bus to Paracas. From here we'll go to the coast so we can tour the Ballestas Islandsby boat . During our tour we'll see the mysterious Candelabra which can be seen from the boat and from there we'll visit the Ballestas Islands which is a paradise for sea life! There are many types of sea birds and seals playing in the water or on shore.

After our fun with the sea animals, we'll head back to the harbor of Paracas where, when you get off the boat, will likely have some time to walk around the area or go souvenir shopping. From here we'll board a bus which will head out to the Huacachina Oasis which is right outside of the city of Ica where we'll have lunch and stay the night. Overnight in hotel.

Optional: You can take sandboarding, dune buggy, or other adventure tours in this area.

Today we'll leave the Huacachina Oasis and head for Nazca by touristic transportation. The trip will take about 2 hours and you'll be able to enjoy the local landscapes along the way. We'll go to the local airport where we'll first watch an informational video to help you understand what you will see during your flight over the Nazca Lines. The flight will take about 35 minutes and you'll be able to see different representations of animals and other figures.

A few you'll likely see are condor, spider, monkey, etc. You'll also see large lines that make geometric shapes. After we land we'll have lunch and then continue our trip to Cusco on a night bus.

Today we'll leave Lima. According to your flight schedule, we'll pick you up from your hotel and bring you to the airport in Lima. Here you'll board a flight to Cusco. When you land in Cusco we'll be waiting there to bring you to your hotel.

Afternoon we'll have a half day tour of the city of Cusco, lasting about 5 hours. We'll start by visiting Koricancha/Santo Domingo Monastery. Koricancha was believed to be the main temple where the Incas worshiped the Sun God. When the Spanish conquistadores took the city, they removed all of the gold believed to have covered Koricancha and the golden statues, as well as destroying much of the building. There is still a large part which you can see under the construction of the Santo Domingo Monastery. From here we'll go outside of the city to Sacsayhuaman which, although also partially destroyed by the Spanish, is still very impressive with its large blocks of stone, some weighing more than 100 tons. We'll travel on to Quenqo meaning 'labyrinth.' Experts believe this site was used for ceremonial purposes. This is also the beginning of the famous Inti Raymi festival. Next on our list will be Pucapucara which is believed to be a control point where the Incas controlled the entrance into Cusco. Our last stop will be the temple dedicated to the worship of water Tambomachay before going back to Cusco. Overnight in hotel.

Today we'll take the day to visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas! We'll start by visiting Pisac which is known for the P'isaq Archaeological Park and Pisac Market. At the Pisac Market, there are many opportunities to buy souvenirs since this market is famous for the variety of handmade jewelry, textiles, and pottery. After visiting Pisac, we'll travel to Urubamba where we'll have a buffet lunch. And after lunch, we'll travel to Ollantaytambo, where we'll see many examples of Inca architecture throughout the town. After visiting Ollantaytambo we'll drive to Chinchero which also means 'Rainbow City' which has a great view of the area around it. The people living there still hold on to traditions generations old. People also come to see their church with its painted murals and traditional market. From Chinchero, we'll return to Cusco around 7:00. Overnight in hotel.

Passengers are picked up at their hotel and head to Cusco at 7:00 am in a private bus, with the first destination Saywite Archaeological Park. There he observed the mysterious monolith and the nearby archaeological remains, the staggered pacchas ushnu and must be remembered in order to contrast their correspondence with the ceremonial architecture of Choquequirao. After a good box-lunch, we continue down through the remote valley of Huanipaca, one of those spots in the Peruvian highlands reserved for travelers. After breakfast we depart at 5:30 am, down a footpath entering the Hacienda San Ignacio Antigua then slopes downhill towards the raging Apurimac River (Playa San Ignacio). We cross the suspension bridge. here begins the serious, the rise from the level of the water (at 1,450 m) to Camp Choquequirao (2,870 masl) is nothing short of overwhelming. On one hand, the beauty of the landscape, rivers, waterfalls, flowers lilac, all is movement. On the other, the rugged surroundings, the steep slope and your heartbeat combine in a very personal connection with their surroundings traveler and himself . Back in the camp and after lunch, we expect Phaqchayoq (the system of terraces or "pantry" where you can see the cultivation of corn) and The House of the Waterfall (according to scholars, the home of Inca of Choquequirao). After breakfast and already knowing the route, the return is made easier. After breakfast, we boarded the bus to take us to Ollantaytambo, an estimated travel time of 5 hours. They consume lunch, then take the train to Machu Picchu town. After settling into the hotel, you may want to enjoy a swim in the famous Aguas Calientes. Dinner and overnight.

We left early to catch the first bus that will leave us in the same Inca Sanctuary, located on the Urubamba River canyon in the heart of the jungle mountain range of Salkantay, wonder of the world that visit, taking the opportunity to make visits optional to the imposing mountain of Wayna Picchu or the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). Returning to Machu Picchu town, consume a buffet lunch at a tourist restaurant and then we will take the train back to Cusco. Transfer to your hotel.

On this day of our tour, we'll start early for our Lake Titicaca Tour by picking you up from your hotel and bringing you to the harbor. From here we'll take a boat to the Floating Islands of Uros. The Uros people, who live on these floating islands, started building them centuries ago to isolate and protect themselves from other tribes. They gather reeds from the shallow parts of Lake Titicaca bundle them together tightly and construct the floating platforms where they then build their houses and live. While we visit their community we will learn about their customs and their lifestyle.

After we visit the floating islands, we'll take a boat ride for about 2 hours to Taquile Island where the local community speaks Quechua. They are known for their textiles, their "Chullos", knitted hats with earflaps and "The Calendar Waistband", which shows the annual cycles connected to rituals and agricultural activities. From the island you'll have a great view of Titicaca Lake and the houses on the island which are inhabited by direct descendants to the Incas. When we reach the top of the island and have walked around for a while, we'll have lunch together before walking back down to the harbor. Here we'll take our boat back to Puno. When you reach the harbor, we'll take you back to your hotel. Overnight in hotel.

Today will be the last day in Puno. We'll pick you up from your hotel according to your departure schedule and bring you to the airport or to the bus terminal.
